Iphone3g_studio_24 Apple supplier Foxconn, a Taiwanese manufacturer, states that it is building 800,000 iPhone 3Gs for Apple every week, according to a report in TechCrunch.

That corresponds to an annual rate of 41.6 million iPhones per year. By contrast, Apple sold 6 million first-generation iPhones in the past year.

Assuming that Apple is selling the phones as fast as its supplier is making them, the 800K figure means that Apple could surpass its first-year sales after just 7.5 weeks — or by the first week of September. In reality, Apple will probably hit the 6 million unit milestone sooner (since the company probably had more than a single week’s worth of phones on hand prior to its July 11 launch).

Meanwhile, people are still lining up outside the San Francisco Apple store in the wee hours of the morning to purchase iPhone 3Gs.
